Overview
Our clients Mr and Mrs Lennard bought a bigger house so that they could have an extra room for when their daughter visits. Our clients asked us to transform their property and to make the house more functional. We began by demolishing the property to make changes to the current structure and added new steel beams that could withstand the new open layout.
Planning And Management
All the planning and management was done by the owners, home designer, and NW London Contracts LTD to ensure that we were meeting our clients’ brief.
Site
The house is situated in Heathgate, Hampstead Garden Suburb, NW London, and is a highly sought-after location.
Design
We completely altered the layoutof the existing house and undertook a complete renovation of the property, including all M&E works. We converted the existing garage into a large utility room including space for coat storage, reinstated the wine cellar, installed new timber windows using bespoke joinery that had to be approved for the conservation area, and installed a bespoke kitchen with Miele appliances that included instant boiling tap and light cream worktops. We used Sanderson marble white paint for the walls and white diamond matt paint to the ceilings; most other rooms had decorative wallpaper, Hudevad flat panel radiatorsthat were hand painted to match the wallpaper, and light-colourwork surfaces to create a luxurious feel.
Because Mr and Mrs Lennard’s daughter visitsfrequently, they wanted to provide her with a comfortable working space in addition to an extra bedroom. We created an efficient office space with lots of natural lighting to fulfil their brief. We also added a bathroom as well as a sitting room so that their daughter could enjoy the beautiful garden views.
We transformed their garden to create the feeling of an oasis, with the help of the antique accent lighting along with blooming bougainvillea. We added a patio to their garden so that our clients could use the garden all year round, and to protect the interior from the outer elements.
Materials
We used materials to match those already in the property. We added solid wood flooring with 100% natural wood product, with each board coming from one piece of solid wood and cut according to the desired size and design.
To ensure luxury, we added Calacatta marble tops because their unique swirls of gold make the countertop a statement piece. We also used it in the bathroom because it provided a striking and attractive look to the whole house. The bold veins created a visual impact and looked grand in the bathroom.
Energy
All the materials that we used were selected so that they met current building regulations. We added the best quality and energy-efficient lighting systems to the whole house, which are cost-effective in the long term.
