Client’s Demand
Mr and Mrs Jones are a young couple with two children. They dreamt of living in a big and luxurious house. Our clients wanted to enlarge the existing house with both front and rear extensions. We extended the back of the property to create a bigger living space, featuring large, ultra-slim panoramic sliding doorsthat open on to the garden. Mr Jones is a billiard enthusiast who loves to play pool, so we extended the front of the house to create a dedicated pool table room.
We built a garden outhouse that is being used as a gym, with shower room and bar.
The property included a swimming pool that had been out of use for a long time. Because of safety concerns for their children, the clients decided to replace the pool with a hot tub and swim spa. We decked around both to achieve a flush level, totally transforming the garde
Overview
As a young family with two children, our clients wanted more space and to fulfil their ambition of living in their dream house. To help them to achieve their aims, we started by demolishing and changing the current structure to completely transform the space into a comfortable and big house.
Planning And Management
The planning and management of the house was doneby the interior designer, owners, and NW London Contracts LTD.
Site
The house is located in Oakleigh Park, North London N20, in the London Borough of Barnet,in a desired residential area
Design
We worked very closely with our clients. We started with structural alterations to accommodate thedesign for their new kitchen, including an open plan ground floor reception room with sliding panoramic patio doors.
In the loft we addeda shower room. We converted one of the rooms into a cinema room and the other into an office space that has a stunning apex window with one piece of glass, giving a beautiful gardenview.
We worked with the interior designer and clients to use the space effectively, mapping out the entire property and taking account of factors such as room size, wall shape, etc
Materials
We selected materials while considering the life-cycle costing and environmental impacts such as toxicity, processing and mining impacts, and embodied energy. We added composite windows throughout, with a wood-grain finish.
We coordinated with our client and design team to ensure that our clients had the best possible finish and quality for their property. We used Amtico floors in the kitchen, living room, and children’s playroom; on the upper floors carpets were installed to match the decor and colour palette.
Energy
We built the house to achieve an energy-efficient property. Energy-efficient appliances were selected including the washing machine, dishwasher, and refrigerator. To make a significant difference, we added energy-efficient lighting and installed various design features to create a lot of natural light.
